So, here is how it goes. First, the state passes a harsh immigration law. Then, it detains large numbers of immigrants. Third, private prisons (LCS, CCA, GEO) receive fresh inmates. And finally, the artificially created labor shortage is supplied by the new inmates. Does this sound like modern-day slavery to anyone?
The rest of the country can only look in shock and dismay, as once again, Alabama, a state renowned for its historical role in racism, segregation and slavery, leads the nation into another round of shame.
Status Crow
My mom told me when she was young and the VietNam war was going on in the USA, they had recruiters illegally recruit young men from Mexico. They didn’t go to the cities, they went to the ranches and places they assumed were really poor to promise the young men money and citizenship if they fought the war for them. They did get money to get sent back home, but it was measly wages, no military funeral if they didn’t make it home (they got lucky if they got the body back), and no citizenship. It was back to Mexico for them.
